Puffin Skull 3D Printed Hand Painted Anatomical Model
from £12.00
The Common or Atlantic Puffin (Fratercula arctica) nests locally to us along the cliffs of Flamborough Head, but also at various colonies in Northern England and Scotland. They're famous thanks to the almost comical appearance - bright beak plates and ungainly motion on land and in air. They do, however, excel at diving but thanks to over-fishing, egg collction and habitat loss are listed as a threatened species.
This life-sized 3D print is made from recyclable corn-starch PLA plastic and based on a digital scan of an actual puffin skull found near Bempton. It is fantastically detailed and finished by hand using acrylic paints, a great item for display purposes - whether you have an interest in bird spotting, anatomy, or zoology.
This skull is cruelty-free and perfect for naturalists who are concerned about the impact of sourcing skulls for their collections. Our puffin skull is anatomically accurate while having no animal harmed in the process! Measuring around 80mm long at the base the skull is in two pieces - cranium and jaw - coloured beak plates are not present on this model.
This is a one of a kind 3D printed skull made with love in our little Chapel, and hand-painted by an artist. The careful printing process we undertake to retain detail takes time, and this particular skull takes around 8 hours to print. The 3D printing textures add to the realism of the skull and create a knitted bone-like texture - which alongside the paint, adds to the rustic feel of the item.
Our skulls are printed, finished, primed, painted, and packaged on-demand, meaning it takes a few days to have your order ready and sent out to you.
