Common Seal Skull 3D Printed Hand Painted Anatomical Model

from £45.00
The Common or Harbour Seal (Phoca vitulina) is one of the two species usually found along the shores of Great Britain. They can be differentiated from their Grey cousins by a squatter head and generally smaller size. They are not an uncommon sight along the shores of our local Flamborough Head.

This life-sized 3D print is made from recyclable corn-starch PLA plastic and based on a digital scan provided by Victor Cruz et al.. It makes a perfect gift for yourself or those interested in natural history and biology. It is printed to a 0.15mm accuracy and a great item for display purposes - whether you have in interest in skulls, animal biology, or wish for a folklore dedication to the mythical Selkie.

This skull is cruelty-free and perfect for naturalists who are concerned about the impact of sourcing skulls for their collection - thankfully real common seal skulls are hard to come-by - the species being protected under both UK and USA conservation laws. Our seal skull is anatomically accurate while having no animal harmed! Measuring around 200mm long at the base the skull is in two pieces (the cranium and jaw), printed in four parts. The item is available hand painted in a naturalisic style or in a plain white primer.

This is a one of a kind 3D printed skull made with love in our little Chapel, and hand-painted by an artist. The careful printing process we undertake to retain detail takes time, and this particular item takes around 25 hours to print. The 3D printing textures add to the realism of the skull and creates a knitted bone-like texture - which alongside the paint, adds to the rustic feel of the item.

Our skulls are printed, finished, primed, painted, and packaged on-demand, meaning it takes a few days to have your order ready to be sent out to you. Sent Via Royal Mail tracked and signed for.
